La Ronde
presentation
A performance conceived by Boris Charmatz to celebrate the Grand Palais, shot on January 16, 2021, with the participation of François Chaignaud.
Boris Charmatz’s La Ronde, conceived as celebration of the Grand Palais, about to be closed for renovation, turned into a defiant response to the pandemic. The intimate character of the performance confronted the vast emptiness of the nave. Drawing inspiration from Arthur Schnitzler’s La Ronde, the choreography unfolded as an unbroken sequence of interlinked duets. On January 16, 2021, the dancers brought life into the stark nave of the Grand Palais, intertwining iconic and historical duets with pieces crafted for the occasion, reminiscences and tributes to figures like Schnitzler and others.
