Roomates is a programme of six pieces comprising two proposals by the (LA)HORDE collective and four commissions.

For the Grime Ballet (danser parce qu’on ne peut pas parler aux animaux) program, François Chaignaud and Cecilia Bengolea draw on the choreographic material from their collaboration Altered Natives’ Say Yes To Another Excess – TWERK and the solo Stitches created by Cecilia Bengolea to devise a new hybrid piece lasting around ten minutes with four dancers from the Ballet National de Marseille.

The solo Stitches, created by Cecilia Bengolea for Japanese dancer Erika Miyauchi, is a minimalist performance that combines ballet and dancehall. In Altered Natives’ Say Yes To Another Excess – TWERK, created in 2012, François Chaignaud and Cecilia Bengolea invent a unique and physical style that plays with sexual identities and draws on their practical and anthropological experience of club dances (Jamaican dancehall, krump, house, split & jump, etc.).

This work and style of writing will be combined with the power and intensity of the musical repertoire of Grime – electronic music that originated in East London in the 2000s, combining, mixing and transforming sounds from dancehall, hip hop and UK Garage.
